ICEPLATE® Curve uses the drinking water you carry to cool or heat your body.

Bladders bulge, break, and don't drain. They waste the incredible energy potential and impact protection of water. Lugging one around is like carrying around a massive battery with no charge.

    How do I wear ICEPLATE®?

ICEPLATE® vs. Other Hydration Bladders: Cooling

From our inception, we have strived to improve human performance in the harshest conditions. A dilemma that has plagued military personnel for years is how to effectively regulate internal body temperatures in the extreme heat that often comes with a mission. Soldiers have tried any and everything to cool off in the field, from stuffing their plate carriers with water bottles to wrapping their body with a wet sheet. Obviously, these are not sustainable solutions.

Enter the ICEPLATE®, a revolutionary hard-cell water bottle that not only provides hydration, but 70 watts of cooling power as well. For our elite users looking to gain a competitive edge, ICEPLATE® technology is an absolute gamechanger. You now have a multi-purpose cooling and hydration solution without having to add unnecessary weight to your kit. There is no better way to get more out of what you are already carrying.

To unlock the cooling power of the ICEPLATE®, simply fill it with water and freeze it overnight. As the ice melts, you are able to drink the ice-cold water for hydration. If you are looking to gain a performance edge, the environmental inoculation capabilities of the ICEPLATE® will take you from standard to Superhuman. Anyone looking to settle for "good enough" should look elsewhere.

ICEPLATE® vs Other Hydration Bladders: Heating

The ICEPLATE® isn’t just for cooling. For those operating in the harshest environments, an ICEPLATE® can provide 52 watts of heating power to create a competitive advantage where none previously existed.

When in the extreme cold, one might be hesitant to drink cold water for fear it might make them colder in turn. This is no longer an issue with the ICEPLATE®. To unlock the heating potential of the ICEPLATE®, simply fill it with hot water. Not only will it heat your body, but drinking the hot water will warm you from the inside as

ICEPLATE® vs Other Hydration Bladders: Durability

Nothing is more frustrating than having your hydration pouch burst or tear, especially when you are out in the field or away from home. In some circumstances, this can be catastrophic. Having a hard-cell water bottle like the ICEPLATE® will give you the peace of mind that your source of hydration will never burst.

Further, it is ill-advised to try freezing or adding hot water to a standard hydration bladder as the soft material could easily be damaged or broken. This means you can’t get much cooling or heating, leaving you at a competitive disadvantage. Finally, one of the most convenient attributes of the ICEPLATE® is that it’s dishwasher safe. The soft construction of typical water pouches can be difficult to properly clean and sometimes even require a special cleaning kit. The ICEPLATE® will outlast and outperform any other water bladder available.

ICEPLATE® is designed for elite users looking to gain an edge when carrying out their duties. The environmental inoculation capabilities of the ICEPLATE® create a distinct performance advantage where none previously existed. This hydration bladder is perfect for the following users:

Plus, you don’t have to add any excessive weight to your kit as you were already carrying water in the first place.
    • Law Enforcement: Much like military personnel, our law enforcement officers often wear body armor for a majority of the day. When out in the heat, especially during the summer, dehydration and sometimes even heat stroke can sneak up quickly. The ICEPLATE® provides our police officers with the necessary all-in-one cooling/heating/hydration capabilities previously thought impossible. It is imperative for an officer to be at the top of his game at all times, and the ICEPLATE® can help actuate this.

Whether you’re a first responder or a prepared citizen, hydration and temperature control is crucial during adversities like earthquakes, hurricanes, riots, and more.
    • Safety/Drive Thru: Sometimes overlooked, drive thru team members and safety workers are often subject to long hours in the heat or cold. Having to constantly switch out employees due to extreme weather creates a burden on a business and its employees.
The ICEPLATE® combined with our HiVis Safety Gear empowers your workers to safely weather the heat or cold by providing them with unparalleled control over their environment.
    • Outdoor + SPORT: The ICEPLATE® is the perfect hydration solution for a wide variety of outdoor activities like hiking, cycling, mountain biking, camping, skiing, and much more. Everyone knows how important hydration is when working up a sweat, but keeping your body temperature regulated is also critical. Now, with ICEPLATE®’s environmental inoculation and hydration capabilities, you can tackle both with only one hydration pouch.

Yes! ICEPLATE® integrates with a number of backpacks, both internally and externally. We recommend Vertx and Haley Strategic Partners packs for your EDC and tactical requirements. You’ll be surprised at how much space you save! The “water bottle bulge” is a thing of the past.

Check out some of the packs we have tried using ICEPLATE® with.

Cleaning your ICEPLATE® water bladder is actually incredibly simple, because it is dishwasher safe. Just unscrew the cap, which you can put in the silverware compartment, and place the ICEPLATE® cap side down in the lower rack. You can then run a normal wash and dry cycle.

You can also wash your ICEPLATE® the old-fashioned way, by hand. Fill your sink with hot, soapy water and clean the exterior with a non-scratch surface sponge. Be sure to flush water through the bite valve before drinking.

Your water bladder drinking tube is also dishwasher safe. So, you can put it in when you clean your ICEPLATE®. You can also handwash in a similar manner to your ICEPLATE® that is outlined above.

Some have noticed a build up of condensation that can be difficult to remove. While not a big issue for day-to-day use, this should be addressed for long-term storage. You can use the Platypus Tube Brush here.

Theoretically, you could put other liquids in your ICEPLATE®. That being said, we recommend that you stick with water. Water will give you the best results and is much easier to clean.

The best way to ensure your ICEPLATE® is completely dry is to hang it up. An easy way to do this is to attach a rubber band to the top strap loop and hang it up. For best results, the rubber band should be inserted through the strap loop opposite the exit port for max drainage efficiency. The TotalDrain Technology allows all remaining moisture in the water bladder to escape.

Similar to ICEPLATE®, hang up your water bladder tube for drying. If there is leftover condensation that is difficult to remove, you can run a tube brush through it.

Absolutely! ICEPLATE® is the quietest way to hold your water thanks to its hardcell construction. This is essential in a variety of tactical scenarios.

Check out this article for the science behind this answer.

We recommend removing any leftover water and drying out your ICEPLATE® after every use. Water will start go “bad” after as little as 24 hours, depending on the storage conditions.

However, freezing your ICEPLATE® and, subsequently the water inside, will allow you store the water for much longer.

Each ICEPLATE®, including our ICEPLATE® Curve and ICEPLATE® Classic, can hold over 50 fluid ounces, or approximately 1.5 liters of water. In addition to its hydration capabilities, the ICEPLATE® provides 70 watts of cooling power, reducing the need for excessive water consumption. In colder weather, filling the ICEPLATE® with hot water can help keep you warm with 52 watts of heating power!

Used fully frozen, ICEPLATE® will typically keep you cool for several hours and hydrated for a full 8-hour shift.

It’s important to note that variations in metabolic efficiency, size, and environmental conditions will have an impact on the duration.

Yes, ICEPLATE® is designed to generate condensation that cools the outer layer of your clothing. This condensation evaporates, effectively eliminating considerable heat to help you #StayFrosty® and dry. Users often report feeling completely dry after a shift. We recommend combining the ICEPLATE® with moisture-wicking or hydrophobic base layers, like our TCCC Shorts, for optimum results.

Whether worn on the front or back, the ICEPLATE® performs efficiently. If you're unsure about the best position, we recommend wearing it on your back for the first use.

Soft Body Armor: Given the wide variety of Soft Armor formats available, our Velcro Armor Straps are recommended for use with soft armor to allow for the best possible ride height adjustment.

Hard Armor/Plate Carrier: The ICEPLATE® can be attached to a plate carrier using Zipties, folded 100 mph tape, 550 cord, spare boot laces, or just about anything you might have on hand in the field. Many customers manage to accommodate the ICEPLATE® inside their plate bag with their armor plate, depending on the armor/plate carrier combo.

However, an IMS is absolutely the best solution for any plate carrier.

External Armor Carry: IMS, designed for military and law enforcement use, offers a highly durable, low-profile, hard cell hydration solution for external applications.

Industrial/Commercial: Our ICEVEST® HiVis Cooling/Heating/Hydration Safety Vest offers an all-in-one industrial safety solution, featuring cooling, heating, high visibility, and improved productivity. It uses two ICEPLATEs® (front and back) in one ICEPLATE carrier.

Travel/EDC: The ICEPLATE® fits seamlessly into the laptop or hydration compartments of most leading backpacks, like the Vertx Gamut EDC and Vertx EDC Transit Sling. It is also a must-have water bottle for carry-on travel.

The ICEPLATE® Curve, when empty, weighs about 0.75 pounds or 12 ounces. Given the consistent weight of water at room temperature, which is 8.33 pounds per gallon, 50 fluid ounces of water weighs around 3.26 pounds. Therefore, a filled ICEPLATE Curve containing 50 fluid ounces or 1.5L of water weighs approximately 4.01 pounds at room temperature.

That's an excellent question! In short, the ICEPLATE® is incredibly resilient. You can watch various videos of the rigorous tests we've conducted over the years by clicking here.
