I first ordered my coyote IcePlate with a Source tube and bite valve because they are the best. This ended up being a poor decision on my end, because the Source tube lacks a 90 degree connector, which in my view is necessary with an IcePlate. I felt like I was constantly adjusting the tube at the IceCap, and then eventually at some point when I was adjusting the tube, the IceCap popped off the threads and sent water pouring out of the IcePlate and all over my legs. After this happened the first time, the IceCap seemed to pop off every time I tried to adjust the Source tube.
I contacted Doug at Qore and he had me send everything back in, and in a matter of days I had a brand new replacement IcePlate, as well as their bite valve with the 90 degree elbow. I mentioned to Doug that this was such an issue for me that I’m surprised that Source tubes were being sold with the IcePlate, and now I see that the Source tubes have been completely removed from being sold with the IcePlate, so that’s probably a good thing.
I was a little bummed, though, that I had to give up the Source tube. So I ordered one on Amazon to do a little experiment. I easily had pulled out the 90 degree elbow from the new drink hose, so I thought maybe I could do the same with the Source tube. When I got the Source tube, I put it in my vice and pulled on the connector as hard as I could, and the only thing that happened is I separated the tube cover from the end, which revealed that its connector is heat sealed into the tube. I figured I’d roll the dice and proceeded to cut the connector off, and then, luckily, the 90 degree connector slid right in, and its ridges kept it snug in place.
Now I have a Source tube and bite valve with 90 degree connector on my IcePlate setup, and it couldn’t be more perfect. I have zero kink issues, and I get to enjoy all the perks of having a Source tube. Now I can stay cool, stay hydrated, and refill my IcePlate with water bottles without doffing my carrier.
I’ve been a fan of the ice plate since the very beginning. The improvements and updates made to the Curve are amazing! It fits perfectly in a plate carrier or my backpack for travel. I seriously take this with me on all my trips! 10/10 will recommend this to anyone looking for a hydration carrier.
I've used my plate for a few weekend-long airsoft games and it's been a lot more comfortable than the 1.5L hydro bladder I was using. My gear is more balanced, and not needing a pouch for a bladder opens up a lot more real estate on my plate carrier. Being able to use my other Source hoses is a plus. Looking forward to using this for some hiking and photography trips coming up too, but so far so good!
A truly spectacular design and invention. Stays cold especially for the hot range days. Love it!
