ICEVEST HiVis Cooling/Heating/Hydration Safety Vest (Type O) is a versatile Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) productivity tool that enhances performance and inoculates commercial and recreational users against environmental risks on the job or on the trail. Designed to carry two ICEPLATES® (front and back) to make it the most powerful cooling/heating/hydration safety vest on the market and the only cooling/heating safety vest with integrated hydration.

ICEVEST HiVis Cooling/Heating/Hydration Safety Vest (Type O) combines multiple utility functions into a single piece of kit, enabling users to realize their full potential on the job. IceVest HiVis is NOT designed for Military, Law Enforcement, Security or Defensive applications. For MIL/LE applications, use ICEPLATE EXO®.

The science behind ICEPLATE® Curve comes from more than two decades of research conducted by Stanford University, the US Army, USASOC, and the CDC on the effects of cooling on metabolic capacity, recovery, and heat injury prevention under PPE/MOPP and in athletics. Life saver

I have a history of heat related injuries and this vest makes life soooo much more bearable. Once you get heat stroke, it gets easier and easier to get it again. This vest makes the 95 deg days in full sun on our farm way more enjoyable. I’ve had a few friends and family members get some themselves because they tried it out and were impressed with how well it cools you down. It’s a must have for anyone working outdoors and I can’t recommend it enough.

Holding up so far

I bought this for surveying out in the field. I chose this vest versus the other because it has a belt with a couple of pockets. It doesn't have enough hi-vis to be OSHA approved on a construction sight, but I can just throw a regular vest over it. When working on rail roads, sometimes you have to wear vests of a specific color anyway. When standing still running the total station, this is awesome. Here in southern New England it can get up to 95* + with a dew point of 70. If you're moving, you're still gonna sweat and be miserable, but less miserable with this. On days that are that hot, it only cools for about 4 hours, after that I take it off and realize how miserable it is without these. I'm considering getting a second set for that. Also, it takes about 24 hours for these things to freeze solid. They get good and cold overnight in my chest freezer, but not frozen all the way through if used the day prior. The inside of the vest is fuzzy like the outside is to stick velcro. I wish it was smooth like the material of the reflective strips. I find myself hanging my hands on the rim of the plate so my wrists rest against the reflective strip because its a great conductor of the cold to my wrist to cool down. Because I'm almost always in direct sun I'm always wearing a kaki, long sleeve, button down shirt. That with the fuzzy fabric, insulates more than I'd like. I will soak the vest with a hose before I throw it in the freezer so that the vest will be wet when I put it on and be thermally more conductive for that reason. They may have tested different fabrics and settled upon what they have for a reason, but with my gear and environment, I think my idea would be better. This is the only reason I'm giving 4 out of 5 stars. That being said, I am contemplating adding the ice vent pontoons to the inside of this. When I feel a strong breeze blow I'll lift the plates to create an air gap to catch the breeze and it feels sooo good. It will break the conductive aspect of the plates, but allow the sweat and condensation to evaporate more in our humid climate.

Long story short, if you work out in the heat and have been contemplating buying these, just do it. The vest has held up to the brush better than expected, but I wouldn't buy the drinking package in hind sight. I already have a water bladder I wear on my back with these so even when they are melted, so long as they're cool, they still act as a heat sink to absorb heat from your body and keep the water on your back refreshingly cool as well. The more water you keep in the plates the better they work.

Hi William,
Thank you so much for taking the time to share such a detailed and honest account of your IceVest HiVis experience! We greatly appreciate it.
We thought it might be worth letting you know that the IceVest HiVis Cooling/Heating/Hydration Safety Vest Class 2 (Type R) has two features that could be useful for you:
1. The plate bags are made of a smooth nylon fabric in safety yellow.
2. They have sufficient background material to meet ANSI 107-2015 Class 2 specs.

Great cooling vest!

I work construction outside in heat above 110 and it keeps me cool for the hot hours of my day!

The team loves them

The vest is great the only thing is the screw on lid should be made of rubber because after it freezes if you drop it then the plastic lid brakes

Hi Jessie,
First, great move on protecting and caring for your team with IceVest HiVis! Second, thank you for taking the time to share your experiences with the community. A wide range of materials were evaluated for the Magnetic Freezer Cap. Rubber was eliminated for a number of reasons, namely interoperability, cost, and shock absorption. Instead, we optimized the Magnetic Freezer Caps for reliability in our Military environments (these caps are in combat on a daily basis without any issues, where reliable seals are the priority) and cost to make replacements abundant and affordable in great quantity. Last, but not least, the Magnetic Freezer Cap is designed to absorb the impact of a drop and breakaway from the IcePlate Curve in much the same way as the parts of a Formula One race car are designed to breakaway to disperse the impact energy of a crash to protect the driver. In this case, the Magnetic Freezer Cap protects the much more expensive IcePlate Curve. Naturally, we still do not recommend dropping IcePlate Curve, but if an accident or negligent handling does occur, the Magnetic Freezer Cap and IcePlate Curve are ready.
Hope this helps, but please let us know if you have any additional questions. #StayFrosty

Used it and it keeps us work cool even when it feels like 104 degrees even with high humidity here in Houston

Awesome!

Well worth the investment. In 110 degree weather the ice packs lasted about 4 hours. However the ice packs had been in a cooler from 6am until 9am. They were still frozen at 9am.

We have employees who work outside during the hot Arizona summers. Without the Ice Plate vests from Qore, this would not be possible!

Pretty Sweet, Some Fit Issues

The vest works great and provides a great amount of cooling for employees working in our industrial heater factory in a St. Louis summer. The stock suspension can be a little tricky to set up and get just right for the person wearing it. This makes it a little cumbersome to share a vest between users. The ice plates are supposed to interlock for stacking in a freezer. They do, however, the plates we received have a bulge either in the forming and makes the stack unstable. Our users can feel the bulge of the ice plate through the vest. Overall, it is slim enough to wear underneath painting suits, welding jackets, aprons, and other PPE that's required. I'm looking forward to the winter when I get to send a vest with our field service technicians that should be able to wear with hot water and stay warm in below freezing temps!

Thanks for the feedback Conner, and we are glad to hear that your team is enjoying the cooling power of the Black StayFrosty Vest! One quick note on the bulging you are experiencing; our customers report eliminating the bulge by pouring out a little of the water inside the IcePlate so there is greater open volume for the water to expand during freezing.

For the future I want to also mention that our newest product, IcePlate Curve, has many features that solve these issues inherently! An all new baffle increases the structural integrity during freezing, while also featuring a newly designed fill port that guarantees a precise fill every time. As we expand your program we will be sure to utilize IcePlate Curve and all of its new capabilities!

Please let us know how your team enjoys staying warm in the coming winter months. We think this is the most underrated application of our products.
