Engineering the Unfair Advantage

Physics doesn’t negotiate. Neither do we. ICEPLATE EXO® Gen 3 is the definitive human readiness infrastructure, designed to bridge the gap between biological limits and mission requirements. By integrating patented ICEPLATE®, ICEFLASK® and ICEVENTS® technologies, we’ve replaced the traditional plate carrier with a thermal management system that optimizes the human machine.

Everything you need. Nothing else.

Functional Architecture

ICEPLATE EXO® Gen 3 is built for the top tier of operators who understand that fatigue is a design flaw. It provides thermodynamic dominance, transforming temperature from a liability into a resource to extend the perimeter of what is humanly possible.

The Reality Check

ICEPLATE EXO® Gen 3 is not for beginners. It is a professional tool for professional missions.

Materials Origins & Compliance

ICEPLATE EXO® laminate, Velcro®, Nylon 12, Shock Cord, 500D Nylon outer (IRR compliant)

  • Berry Compliant: 100% U.S. sourced and manufactured. Engineered for large-scale U.S. Military acquisitions.
  • USMCA Compliant: Laminate manufactured in Mexico. Identical hydrophobic properties and durability at a more accessible price point.
  • NIR Compliance: Both Berry and USMCA laminates have 500D Nylon as the outer layer, which is naturally NIR compliant. All ICEPLATE EXO® Gen 3 variants except HiVis are covered in 500D Cordura for NIR compliance.

Please Note: Our ICEPLATE EXO® Laminate Berry Compliant line of ICEPLATE EXO® Gen 3 carriers is being retired to make way for a new, more advanced Berry Compliant material, available soon. To purchase from our remaining stock, click here.

IFF

Generous Velcro panels on the front and rear plate bags allow large identifying patches to be attached with ease. Laser Cut Negative MAPS throughout mean MOLLE pouch attachment goes uninterrupted.

Plate Bag Lacing

Laser-cut eyelets allow plate bags to be cinched via shock cord to accomodate even the thinnest of armor plates.

PTT Mounting

ICEPLATE EXO® Gen 3 offers extensive mounting options for PTT devices and radios. The 3x3 grid of laser-cut holes on the shoulder straps allows secure attachment with shock cord or paracord. FAQ's

How should I set up my plate carrier?

Setting up your plate carrier largely depends on personal preference and operational requirements. The setup can vary based on the type of mission, the gear required, and personal comfort. For guidance on optimizing your setup for specific scenarios, such as minimalistic or home defense configurations, visit our comprehensive guides on plate carrier setup, minimalist plate carrier setup, and home defense plate carrier setup.

Are NIJ Level III+ plates classified as soft armor or hard armor?

NIJ Level III+ plates are classified as hard armor. They are specifically engineered to stop rifle rounds, which are significantly more powerful than handgun rounds typically addressed by soft armor. Level III hard armor plates provide essential protection to vital organs by deflecting high-velocity ballistic threats that soft armor cannot.

What materials are used in the construction of Your Level III+ plates?

DFNDR Armor Level III+ C plates are constructed from Fiber-Lite Laminate combined with ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE), bound by a resin matrix. This composition results in a hard, stand-alone armor system that includes Spall-Tek to mitigate spall and deflection of projectile fragments. These materials ensure that the armor not only offers superior ballistic protection but also remains lightweight and durable.

How should Level III+ plates and the ICEPLATE EXO® Gen 3 be maintained?

To maintain the integrity and performance of your armor plates and plate carrier, store them in a dry, cool environment out of direct sunlight. Regularly inspect for any signs of damage or wear. Clean the carrier as per manufacturer instructions, avoiding harsh chemicals that could degrade the materials. For the plates, a damp cloth can be used for cleaning. Always follow the specific care guidelines provided with ICEPLATE EXO® Gen 3 to ensure maximum longevity and protection.

Are there specific legal restrictions associated with owning a plate carrier?

In the United States, it is legal for all law-abiding civilians to purchase and own body armor. You have the right to protect yourself and your family. Keep in mind, certain states, like California and Illinois, haveproposed legislationto restrict civilian ownership, though these measures have not been enacted. Body armor owners need to stay informed about local state laws to ensure compliance. Always check the latest legal requirements in your jurisdiction before purchasing body armor.

How Does ICEPLATE EXO® Gen 3 Compare to Gen 2?

The shoulder straps are now crafted with a single layer of EXO Laminate, reducing stiffness and incorporating quick-release features. The front plate bag has been redesigned with less material and more strategic Velcro® placements for better fit and usability, fully compatible with EUD/ATAC systems. The rear plate bag has expanded compatibility with MOLLE accessories, and the plate closure flap features a new lock-up system that conforms better to plate curvature. Finally, the quick-release cummerbund now includes AXL Equinox technology for increased structural rigidity and ease of use.

Is ICEPLATE EXO® Gen 3 Suitable for Civilian Use?

Absolutely! ICEPLATE EXO® Gen 3 is perfect for prepared civilians looking for exceptional personal protection with the best plate carrier on the market.

How Heavy is ICEPLATE EXO® Gen 3?

ICEPLATE EXO® Gen 3 weighs 15.2 ounces dry. When you add the AXL Equinox Cummerbund, it increases to just 23.2 ounces, maintaining a lower weight profile compared to other popular plate carriers.

How Should ICEPLATE EXO® Gen 3 Fit?

The majority of users will find the Medium size optimal. Your front plate should align with your Sternal Angle and be centered along your mid-clavicular line. Position the top of your back plate roughly an inch or two vertebrae below your Vertebra prominens and the bottom one to three inches above your navel.

This varies slightly based on individual height and torso length. For more detailed guidance, check out this article.

Which Armor Plate is Most Suitable for My Needs?

Level III plates typically offer ample protection for civilians, law enforcement, and some military personnel against most threats. However, Level IV plates provide an extra layer of protection where necessary.

For a detailed breakdown of plate levels, check out this article.

Should I Choose a Plate Carrier or Chest Rig?

The choice between a plate carrier and a chest rig depends on specific needs, conditions, required gear, and personal preferences.

For a comprehensive comparison, check out this article.

Is it OK to Leave Armor Plates Exposed?

Yes, most armor plates are designed to endure exposure to the elements.

Will wearing ICEPLATE EXO® Gen 3 make me feel overheated?

Part of the beauty of ICEPLATE EXO® Gen 3’s design is that it will keep you cooler than traditional plate carriers.

For maximum cooling, using an ICEPLATE® Curve in both front and rear plate bags is recommended, which can actually make you cooler than wearing no plate carrier at all!
