Plate Carrier Hydration and Body Armor Cooling, Heating: What is the difference between IMS Pro Gen 3 and ICEPLATE® MOLLE Back Panel?

Finding the right solution for ICEPLATE® Gen 3 depends on one primary mission requirement: Internal Thermoregulation + Hydration vs. External Hydration Only.

ICEPLATE® Gen 3 is a battery-free thermoregulation system shaped like a Medium ESAPI plate. Using basic physics, it delivers 70W of cooling or 52W of heating with 52.4 fl oz (1.55L) of water, redefining human performance in extreme temperatures.

In this comparison, we look at the carriage differences between our internal mounting option, IMS Pro Gen 3 (Cooling, Heating, Hydration), and our external solution from Dynamic Principles, ICEPLATE® MOLLE Back Panel (External Hydration Only).

Internal Thermoregulation + Hydration: IMS Pro Gen 3

IMS Pro Gen 3

IMS Pro Gen 3 is the premier solution for mounting ICEPLATE® Gen 3 inside a plate carrier. By placing the plate against the body, it enables conductive heat transfer for high-efficiency cooling and heating.

  • Performance: Conductive cooling, heating, and hydration.
  • Profile: Ultra-low profile, durable hard cell construction.
  • Integration: Native to ICEPLATE EXO® Gen 3 or any carrier via CATAMARAN Gen 3.

External Hydration: ICEPLATE® MOLLE Back Panel

ICEPLATE® MOLLE Back Panel

A collaboration with Dynamic Principles, the ICEPLATE® MOLLE Back Panel is a purpose-built external-only hydration solution. It replaces soft bladders with ICEPLATE® Gen 3 for a rugged system that mounts to the rear of any MOLLE-equipped carrier.

  • Durability: Virtually indestructible hardcell hydration that won't rupture under heavy packs or vehicle-borne operations.
  • Modularity: Full laser-cut PALS field for attaching mission-essential pouches.
  • Expansion: Integrated Crye-pattern zippers for use with zip-on back panels.

You people are brilliant!!! I’m a retired cop. I wish we had gear like this back in my day! In the mean time I teach, ALOT. I will be using your gear this coming weekend on a vacation / training I scheduled. Once I year I drag my unhappy wife to (mandatory) training and pair it with a weekend at a local vacation destination. My 68 y/o Dad is coming along. It’s hot as hell. I am counting on your gear preventing my wife from throwing in the towel, and my dad and I out of the hospital with a heat related injury. Keep at it! #GreatFreakingGear!

Hi Nayib,
Yes. That option has been available and restocked multiple times this year already. Be sure to sign-up for RESTOCK notifications for the exact product you want and also for LaunchPad email newsletters. Both can be done in the footer of our website and also with this link:

Will there ever be an option to get the IMS Pro with the Iceplate curve exit port to the right?
