Is West Texas A&M University Censoring Student Job Opportunities?

The following screenshots and text are from a conversation I had with Karl Kimsey, Employer Relations Coordinator at West Texas A&M University regarding our job postings through the career website Handshake.

First, here are the screenshots of our conversation:

should i go to college?

The screenshot was not able to capture the entire conversation, so I copied it to my clipboard and pasted it here for reference.

Hi Karl,

Thanks for the heads-up. My apologies for the mix-up, but I'm confused. Can you help me understand why we have to change the listing for it to be approved?

Thanks in advance for your help,

Justin

I read that in your first email, but I'm asking you to help me understand the why behind your policy? Do y'all know something about my jobs that I do not?

Justin,

Our business is higher education. So, if your positions, or positions from other employers, do not require at least a Bachelor's degree, we will not post the job description for those positions.

And, no, we do not pretend to know more about your positions than you do.

Karl,

We don't create artificial requirements and we don't deny people the freedom to choose for themselves. It is our sincere hope you will let your students see the incredible opportunities we have available for them. We hope you trust them to make the best decision for themselves.

Justin

This experience is the reason we no longer use Handshake: schools like West Texas A&M University wanted us to create artificial preferences for our job postings rather than let us and their students decide who is the best fit for what jobs. This is censorship of opportunity.

Do you think schools should be allowed to censor job postings and career opportunities for their students?

This attempt at social control by the communists who run America’s educational institutions is why I proudly call myself a college dropout. I’m self-educated and have done a number of different things with my life, all of which relied on practical knowledge and experience rather than a piece of paper from an institution that works to limit students’ horizons. As a result, I am far better off for it.

The fact that universities are racing to the bottom should be self-evident to any thinking individual. We need to raze them to the sub-basement and start over again with a sure foundation. The rot has been there for a good 3 to 4 decades, but has accelerated, metastasized in the last 15-20 years. They teach their drones to hate innovation and look at capitalism as a dirty word. They have been programmed to fear free markets!

Keep doing what y’all are doing, you have a great product and you’re innovative. If any pencil-pusher such as Mr. Kimsey darkens your day, just ask ‘em "WHO’S JOHN GALT?" If they can’t answer that, move on and save your valuable time! This is the best advice a middle-aged libertarian anarcho-capitalist such as myself can offer. Producers are drawn like magnets to other producers, and looters repel. Thanks for this article!
